Pine Muhly
Muhlenbergia dubia
Muhlenbergia dubia, commonly called Pine Muhly Grass, is a perfect smaller option to the Big Muhly when space is limited. This dense, evergreen, clump-forming grass has green leaves that are stiff and upright, providing the tidy formal look of Big Muhly. The flowers are narrow cream to tan rods similar to those of Deer Grass. This grass comes from elevations of 3,300-5,000 feet in the Chihuahuan desert from eastern Arizona, New Mexico, South Texas and northern Mexico.
Plant in full sun in fairly well-drained soil. Little supplemental irrigation required but can handle more regular irrigation if soil drains well.
