Melampodium leucanthum

An outstanding native, Melampodium leucanthum (plains Blackfoot, blackfoot daisy), is an herbaceous perennial plant in the sunflower family (Asteraceae) found on limestone-containing rocky slopes. It is an attractive ornamental with showy flowers and a long bloom period from March to November.

This tough little perennial recovers from temperatures down to -20 F. The small white daisy flowers of Blackfoot Daisy have yellow centers and cover the small mound of foliage during the bloom season. Plant Blackfoot Daisy in full sun and well-drained soil, and be careful not to overwater. It is highly tolerant of reflected heat exposures.
