Texas Sage 'Heavenly Cloud'

Leucophyllum frutescens, commonly known as Texas sage, silver leaf, or barometer bush, is a shrub that is usually compact but loosely branched and can grow up to 5-8 feet tall. If not pruned, the plant tends to sprawl with age. This shrub is native to the Chihuahuan Desert, where it grows on rocky limestone slopes in calcareous soils. The plant is found in northern Mexico, Texas, and New Mexico.

Heavenly Cloud is a hybrid between Leucophyllum laevigatum and Leucophyllum frutescens' Green Cloud.' It usually reaches a mature size similar to Green Cloud, but it's a bit narrow, growing to be around 6-8 feet tall and about 6 feet wide. The leaves are dark green and more limited than Green Cloud, which makes them an excellent backdrop for the flowers. Heavenly Cloud is one of the first Texas Rangers to bloom, and the purple flowers attract many pollinators. This selection thrives in full sun and reflected heat and requires virtually no pruning if well placed in the landscape.
