Sampson's Snakeroot is a pea family member and has characteristic trifoliate leaves and flowers held in a raceme. The purple flowers can be in bloom for three months. Reaching about a foot in height, this plant has been used as a ground cover and erosion control in well-drained areas. Sampson's Snakeroot is native to the southeastern region of the U.S. but has been found as far north as Michigan.
