The 'Blackbeard' penstemon produces large, trumpet-shaped lilac purple flowers with white throats on tall stems over semi-shrubby upright plants. This hybrid was developed for its dark purple-green, almost black foliage and compact, non-flopping habit. It blooms from midsummer to midfall, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators. In addition to its dark purple seed pods, it has a long season of interest. It is evergreen.
