Gulf Penstemon 'Dark Towers'

Dark Towers Beardtongue

The 'Blackbeard' penstemon produces large, trumpet-shaped lilac purple flowers with white throats on tall stems over semi-shrubby upright plants. This hybrid was developed for its dark purple-green, almost black foliage and compact, non-flopping habit. It blooms from midsummer to midfall, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators. In addition to its dark purple seed pods, it has a long season of interest. It is evergreen.

Known as Beardtongue, Penstemon is a genus of flowering plants native to North America. Gardeners have developed many beautiful hybrids from a variety of species.

The Penstemon 'Blackbeard' prefers full sun to part sun and average, well-drained soil. This plant is drought and salt tolerant. You can plant 'Blackbeard' in masses or punctuate perennial borders with it.
