ABOUT OCOTILLO BOTÁNICA

We began our sweet little business with a plant. Chaparral bush's beauty and power inspired us to create the salve that started it all. As a business with a simple mission to spread plant magic to the people, Ocotillo Botánica began as Marfa Plants.

Ocotillo Botánica was rebranded in June 2019 as a company founded on the idea that magic can be found in our backyards. With the Ocotillo as our starting point, we shifted from general herbalism to a focus on local plants.

We opened our Brick + Mortar shop in downtown Marfa in January 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, two months later, we had to close our doors again. We all had a challenging year in 2020, and we weren't sure we'd make it...but we made it. Even though we don't know the future, we are incredibly grateful that our dream has weathered the storm.

At least one plant from the Chihuahuan Desert is present in each product (though most contain more than one). The remaining ingredients are either grown in our home garden or sourced from sustainable herbal companies in the United States and Mexico.
It is integral to our identity to remain faithful to the desert around us. We are Ocotillo. We are power.

ABOUT ALEXIS SMITH - OWNER/HERBALIST

Alexis discovered her love of plants while rummaging through the forests of her East Texas home for mosses, mushrooms, and everything else. Today, that love has grown into a steady herbal practice in the Chihuahuan Desert in West Texas. In 2016, she came to Marfa with the mission of building a better life, and now that mission includes those around her.

She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to focus on the essentials in her life through Ocotillo Botanica. Alexis graduated from the Herbal Academy of New England in 2018 and has continued to grow and develop her studies. In almost every way, her love of learning and growing are complementary. She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to focus on the essentials in her life through Ocotillo Botanica.

Alexis began incorporating her practices in magick and witchcraft into her herbal routine in 2020, something she had been dreaming of for years. Combining her love for magick and plants, she pursued education through the Psychic Herbalism Institute to begin her practice of Plant Spirit Healing + clairvoyant plant communication. She is now offering these healings alongside Tarot Readings and Herbal Wellness Plans.
